‘Glass in Tyrol’

 

 

Dear ICOM Glass Members,
The 2023 ICOM Glass Annual Meeting will take place in Tyrol from 25 to 29 September 2023. Christina Zenz, head ad interim of the Collection of Ancient Art in the Tyrolean State Museums in Innsbruck and Milan Hlaveš, member of the Board of the ICOM Glass Committee, organized this meeting and prepared for us a varied program of visits. In Innsbruck, the Museum of Tyrolean Folk Art will host two papers sessions and our Annual General Assembly. The program includes visits to the Strasser Glass Collection (Ambras Castle), to the museum depository and restoration workshops of the Tyrolean State Museums as well as excursions to Hall, Kramsach, Rattenberg, Kufstein and Wattens, where fine Tyrolean glassware have been manufactured for many centuries.
 

This year, the Tyrolean State Museums are hosting the annual meeting of members of ICOM Glass – ICOM International Committee for Museums and Collections of Glass.
The beginnings of local glass production, processing and refinement date back to the Middle Ages and early modern times and extend to the present day. For one week, international glass experts will have the opportunity to exchange and inform themselves about glass production in Tyrol.

 

The organiser ICOM Glass, together with the Tyrolean State Museums and the Austrian Academy of Sciences (project Corpus Vitrearum at the Institute for Habsburg and Balkan Studies), is organising an interesting programme for invited international glass experts. This includes lectures by ICOM Glass members and invited speakers. Furthermore, institutions and production sites that deal with the material glass historically and currently will be visited.
