The role of museums and cultural heritage sites in the development of cities and communities is becoming increasingly crucial: they can boost cultural diversity, inspire creativity, help regenerate local economies, attract visitors and bring revenues. In general, they can help resolve the social and economic inequalities often present in cities and among communities.
ICOM webinar, “Museums, Sustainable Cities and Communities“, that will take place on the 17th of September, 17:00 Paris time (GTM+2), will discuss how museums can and are contributing to making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable by restoring justice, intercultural and intergenerational dialogue, and cultural diplomacy principles.
It will be analyzed how museums and cultural sites can create social capital by focusing on well-being, health and lifelong learning and how they can address contemporary societal issuessuch as globalization, migration, polarization, inequality, populism, gender equality, ageing societies, decolonization and climate change.
Museum professionals from different countries will approach the issue from different but complementary perspectives.
