The National Gallery in Prague invites applications for the following positions:

[1] Curator of Old Masters

[2] Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art

[3] Curator of the modern and contemporary Architecture Collection

 

The National Gallery in Prague is seeking a communicative personality capable of team work, with his or her own creative input to the presentation of permanent collections and to the application of current international concepts to temporary exhibitions.

First-round applications will include:

- Cover letter in Czech or English

- Concept in Czech or English, including a scientific research, publishing and exhibition program (3 - 5 pages in A4 format, i.e. max. 9000 characters incl. space)

- List of published works

- List of realized scientific projects

- List of realized exhibition projects

- Notarized copy of a certificate documenting the highest level of education achieved

- Statement confirming the applicant’s knowledge of the Curators Code of Ethics (published by ICOM) and his/her readiness to observe and implement this Code

The selection procedure will be multi-round. Applicants will be evaluated by a commitee of experts.

[1] Curator of Old Masters

 

Position Responsibilities:

- Administration and work with the collections of Italian painting and sculpture of the 16th - 18th centuries and Dutch painting of the 17th - 18th centuries

- Design and implementation of collection exhibitions

- Loan programs

- Active research

 

Qualification Requirements:

- University degree in art history (M.A., Ph.D)

- Gallery or museum experience in the Czech Republic and abroad

- Minimum 5–year curatorial experience in the determined period of art history

- Proficiency in English and preferably Italian or Dutch, knowledge of Czech language of advantage

- History of high-quality publications

- International contacts in the field

- Good PC skills (MS Office and database programs)

- Extraordinary interest in working and identifying with the institution

- Interest in innovative and interdisciplinary research challenges

- Enthusiasm, creativity and flexibility

- Strong personality with organisational and managerial skills

[2] Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art

 

Position Responsibilities:

- Collection management

- Regular collection inventory

- Regular control of exhibited art works

- Preparation and realization of exhibition projects

- Proposals for collection acquisitions, involvement in the acquisition policy strategy

- Collaboration in interdisciplinary projects

- Professional collaboration at international level

- Expert opinion

- Publishing activities

 

Qualification Requirements:

- University degree in art history (Ph.D) or a corresponding specialized qualification

- Knowledge of visual arts and art theory of the second half of the 20th century, especially of the Central and Central-Eastern Europe region (from 1945 until 1989)

- Knowledge of and interest in contemporary art (since 1989) is appreciated

- Minimum 5- year curatorial experience in the determined period of art history

- Significant publications and/or curatorial activities of international relevance

- Proficiency in English (C1 level) and another world language (min. level B2), knowledge of Czech language of advantage

- High level of PC skills (MS Office and database programs)

- Strong personality with organisational and managerial skills

[3] Curator of the modern and contemporary Architecture Collection

 

Position Responsibilities:

- Collection management

- Strong personality with organisational and managerial skills
